Please join PETA Vice President Dan Mathews in a discussion of legislation affecting animal rights activism. Dan will address the new bill in Florida—SB 1246, proposed by Senator Jim Norman of Tampa—which would outlaw the photographing of animals on farms and has unanimously passed the Senate Agriculture Committee. If it becomes law, this legislation would not only aid and abet criminal animal abuse on factory farms but also set a precedent for bills covering up cruelty to animals in other industries. Come learn how this bill affects you and your work for animals and what we can all do to fight such legislation.

Dan Mathews is the irreverent force behind the colorful crusades and star-studded stunts carried out by PETA, one of the most high-profile pressure groups of all time. Dan launched PETA’s legendary “Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign nude on the streets of Tokyo and has promoted animal rights costumed as a carrot in Kansas City and a cow in Denver, and crashed a furrier’s fashion show dressed as a priest in Milan. He convinced Calvin Klein to stop designing with fur after leading a raid in his office, pressured GM to stop using animals in crash tests by storming the auto company’s float in the Rose Parade, and lobbied Gillette to halt product tests on animals after impersonating a janitor and wheeling a TV into the company’s cafeteria to show graphic footage of the gruesome experiments. He has also persuaded a nonstop parade of stars—including Chrissie Hynde, Pink, Paul McCartney, and Pamela Anderson—to protest, pose nude, or even go to jail for the cause. Just this year, his PETA campaigns have ended up on the front pages of the Wall Street Journal, the Jerusalem Post, and France’s top paper Le Monde.
