Our discussion will focus on reading facial expressions. This was requested by our Brighton group and I promise we are going to repeat the session in Brighton soon! We will discuss the emotions expressed through facial expressions, how to tell the difference between a fake and genuine smile, and specifics about what to look for in the eyebrows, eyes, and mouth. We will look at visual examples on the internet.

Will Purves from Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living will join us this week to discuss the design of their sensory friendly room. We will be using this room for future meetups, so it's a great opportunity to come & tell Will what we are looking for in a sensory friendly room. The room will be designed for the community served by AACIL, and as part of that community, our voices and ideas are an important contribution to the project. See you Thursday!

  • Brighton Autistic Adults Meetup

    2|42 Community Church

We are starting a Brighton chapter of our Autistic Adults meetup, led by and for autistic adults anywhere on the spectrum. At our first Brighton meetup, we will discuss the vision of the group and what the members hope to get out of participating. Light refreshments will be provided. Katie will facilitate the conversation and your level of participation is up to you. No one is required to speak if they don't want to. We will start with brief introductions. After introductions, Katie will introduce the discussion topic. We will do a 15-20 minute silent meeting where we will all have an opportunity to write down our ideas and thoughts we would like to share. After the silent meeting, we will open up to verbal discussion. Our meetups are open to all adults on the autism spectrum regardless of support needs. Nonverbal adults are welcome. If you need to bring a friend or family member to help you through the meetup, they are welcome to join you. If you have specific needs that you would like to discuss ahead of the meetup, you can contact me through the meetup site, by email at [masked], or by text at[masked]
