Let's meet inside the Michigan Theater at 4:15 by the big staircase (you can't miss it) so we can get seats together.

At our last book discussion, many members excitedly pointed out that "The Last Station" would be playing at the Michigan Theater this month. This movie is a great tie-in to our upcoming discussion of "Anna Karenina", since it chronicles the last year of esteemed classic author Leo Tolstoy's life.

Unfortunately the movie will only be playing for the course of this weekend, so there's not a lot of wiggle room as to when the group can go see it. The leader of the A2 Film Fans meetup, Ryan, has put together a joint meetup for both groups to come together and watch this stunning film. Afterward, attendees will make their way to a local eatery to enjoy discussion of the film along with a tasty meal.

I am unable to attend this meetup due to a tight schedule, so I am electing Janet as event host. Be good to her!

There will be no member dues for this meetup.

"It’s the most emotionally naked work of Mirren’s movie career; she gives poetic form to the madness and the violence of commonplace jealousy.” - The New Yorker
Set during the final year of Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy's life, writer-director Michael Hoffman's period biopic explores the fractious relationship between Tolstoy (2010 Oscar Nominated Supporting Actor Christopher Plummer) and his wife, Sofya (2010 Oscar Nominated Actress Helen Mirren), as he embraces a life of asceticism. Paul Giamatti co-stars as impassioned Tolstoy devotee Vladimir Chertkov, with James McAvoy playing the aging writer's assistant, Valentin, who is caught in the middle of various struggles.

112 minutes. Rated R.
