Announcing a new Meetup for Ann Arbor Classics Book Group!

What: David Leavitt's "The Lost Language of Cranes"

When: November 19,[masked]:30 PM

Dues: $1.00 per person

Where:
Panera
903 W. Eisenhower Pkwy
Ann Arbor, MI 48103

I have recently started reading "The Lost Language of Cranes" by David Leavitt, and I just cannot put it down. It is very well written, interesting and goes to places where other books don't always go. The novel explores open and latent homosexuality during the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s. We follow three very likable characters: Owen, an undisclosed homosexual trapped in a traditional marriage, his wife, Rose, and their son Phillip, newly outed to the world. This is really masterfully done. I think the group will enjoy reading and discussing it.

This will be our sixth Thursday evening discussion. We will meet once per month on a Thursday to discuss a selection that either I choose for the group or a member nominates. We will also meet one Sunday afternoon per month to discuss the novel that we democratically decide upon as a group.

Our location is the Panera on Eisenhower, near Briarwood Mall.
