My Dad and I are going to this again this April, so why not make it a meetup?

I enjoy the singing, drums, dancing, arts and crafts for sale, food, tradition, and general good vibes that come with this large Midwestern powwow. Although I will not be asking for $$ for this meetup, the powwow is not free. Check out the link below for more information about the event and the admission fees.

Photographically, what do I expect from this event? Color, movement, circles, lines... I have shot dancers who were somewhat blurred out to use in montages. Like any gymnasium setting, lighting and composition might be challenging... low light, distracting objects in the background, etc. So this might be a good environment to test your camera's low light capabilities (crank up the ISO), play with larger aperture and the plane of focus. At least we will likely be shooting closer to the action than we would if we were many rows above the action at Crisler Arena.

As a footnote, if you're looking to sell images from this event, I would suggest obtaining a model release from anyone used in a portrait that will be sold down the road. Copies of model releases are usually included in books that talk about selling work for stock, fine art prints, etc. Just my suggestion... I do this as a courtesy when I do portrait work that I wish to sell or share online (I might offer them an archival print as a token of my appreciation, depending on the context of the shoot).

If you have other questions about this powwow, check out the link below to their page or send me a message. Hope to see some Shutterbugs on the stands for this. I will not be bringing my tripod for a change :)
