Let's Shoot Cars On The Race Track

Ever wanted to try shooting motor sport? Well this might just be for you. Our friends over at the MotorCity Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America, have agreed to let a small group of Shutter Bugs come and take photographs at their annual High Performance Driver Education event at Waterford Hills Road Race Circuit on June 20th 2014 (yes this is a Friday). Motor Sport is dangerous, so safety first at all times, but we will be getting close to the action and have some fun at the same time, all photographers will be required to sign a waiver - this is a requirement of both the BMW CCA and Waterford Hills.

I will provide some basic instruction, and be on hand to advise and offer assistance.

    Hello all. If any one on the waiting list is available, I will not be attending today. I am having issues leaving my office due to an important presentation that sprung up. Sorry for the last minute, but I was fighting to free my day up.

    I look forward to seeing everybody on Friday afternoon. When arriving at the track, make your way to the paddock infield area, meet me at my car (I will be driving my bright red BMW Z4 probably), with my tripod setup outside behind my car. Just a couple of suggestions to bring along with you.
    - Digital SLR or 35mm Film SLR Camera.
    - Alternative lenses if you have them. 200mm or greater if you have it.
    - Memory Cards or Film If you have the following you can always bring them along;
    - Tripod or Monopod once again if you have them but not necessary unless you have a long heavy lens, I will bring a monopod if you would like to try out.
    - Circular polarizer (cars and glass can give you some terrible reflections) I may have a spare polarizing filter too.

    Clothing, wear something comfortable incase of inclement weather ring along a rain jacket.

    There are no catering services at the track, so please bring along your own lunch or snacks and a drink.

    Phil

    Hi! My wife and I usually shoot events together. Would we both have to RSVP or could we count as one? Just wanted to check before we both showed up and one of us weren't admitted. :{

    if you have something bigger than a 200 bring it, but I wouldn't rent anything. I can get you close to the action in a safe place.
