What we're about

NOTE: In support of the national effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to minimize the risks to the most vulnerable among us, AMC has established new guidelines. All persons joining AMC activities will need to sign up via the Activities Database electronic registration system and only groups of 10 or less including leaders will be allowed.

You will not be able to sign up through Meetup only. To see our activities, go to: http://amcdv.org/AMCCalendar.php Activities may still get posted on Meetup. But you will need to register through the ActDb. Look for the registration link on the activity posting.

Welcome to the AMC - Delaware Valley Chapter Meetup site. The AMC is the Northeast's oldest outdoors club and one of its most respected. The AMC is built on the pillars of conservation, outdoors education and in getting people outdoors. Our "About" page provides more information about the AMC and our Chapter. We ask that when you join you submit a photo and tell us a little about yourself. It's not mandatory that you provide this information but it's useful to many members who want to meet people with similar interests.

Our activity leaders are experienced outdoors people who volunteer their time and expertise. All leaders receive training in activity and risk management prior to leading Chapter activities. Safety is always our number one concern. We recognize that hiking and our other activities involve elements of risk that cannot be avoided. Participants must accept the risk and take responsibility for their own safety.

French Creek Night Hike (Easy)

French Creek State Park Campground

You need to register for this hike online with the AMC system so we can gather consent and other information hands-free before the hike starts. I will move you from the waiting list to "going" in Meetup after you register in the AMC system. Register here: https://activities.outdoors.org/search/index.cfm/action/details/id/121899 ---------- Join me for a night hike at French Creek starting from the campground overflow parking area. Expect a pace to safely match the terrain using headlamps for around 6-7 miles as we explore different trails. This hike is AMC rated “easy” since it is less than 8 miles long, but we will be doing hills plus typical hiking trails with rocks and roots with limited lighting. We will take time to stop for breaks as needed to keep the group together. You need to have a working headlamp plus an accessible spare light before you leave circle-up. I’ve found wider angle lights work best for group hikes. Your cell phone light can only be the third spare. Expect to wear your mask at circle up, if we happen to pass others on the trail and when social distancing is not possible. Keep socially distanced when stopping at breaks so fellow hikers can get a drink or snack as needed. The hike is limited to 10 people total, so please keep your reservations up-to-date. Location: French Creek State Park campground overflow parking lot. This is by the entrance to the loops “A” - “C” just past the dumping station. The road going to the campground is off Park Road. There is no street address since no mail is delivered there. The GPS coordinates are[masked],[masked]. Be ready to circle up at 6:30 PM and we will leave soon after. We should be done close to 8:45. Bring water, a mask, hand sanitizer plus an optional snack. A bathroom is in the center of C loop, about 100 yards up the road from the start. There is limited cell phone coverage in the park, so contact a hike leader before the hike if you are not sure of the start location. No dogs please.

RIDLEY CREEK STATE PARK HIKE (2C7+) MODERATE PACE

Online event

Join us for an 7+ mile hike up and down the rolling hills of Ridley Creek, distance depending on conditions and group. Please note: Registration on the AMC website, (Amcdv.org), and confirmation by leader, is required to join the hike. A mask is also needed and must be worn when group cannot adequately socially distance. Please wear your mask on arrival for the circle up. Meet at 9:30 am in the parking lot by the Park Office. Bring snacks/lunch/water

We will hike all trails of both parks from this central location (over multiple weeks!) Expect a moderate pace for around 7 to 9 miles. This hike is AMC rated "vigorous" due to it being over 8 miles long. The rating is also 2C7-9, the same as the past few months. We will take time to stop for breaks at the top of hills and as needed. Expect to wear your mask at circle up, when passing others on the trail and when social distancing is not possible. Keep spaced apart when stopping at breaks so fellow hikers can get a drink or snack as needed. The hike is limited to 10 people total, so please keep your reservations up-to-date.
