Join us for a moderate 8+ mile trek through the popular Ramapo Mountains located in Bergen and Passaic Counties. This rocky footpath has many ups and downs with some stream crossings and presents delightful views of Ramapo Lake, the surrounding countryside, Wanaque Reservoir, lily-covered Todd Lake and the quite impressive ruins of Van Slyke Castle. Keep your eyes peeled for old millstones lying on the ground.
Meet at the Skyline Drive lower parking lot at 9:00 am SHARP [GPS: N[masked]-W[masked]]. Bring sturdy footwear, lunch/snacks and water; no dogs allowed. As a precaution, WEAR ORANGE. Heavy rain cancels. This is an all-day activity. Refer to NY-NJ Trail Conference Map #115.
Rt 287 to Exit 57, north on Skyline Drive briefly – the “lower” parking lot is on the left, there is a large wooden sign but it comes up kind of suddenly. The entrance is pretty rutted, so take it easy if you have a low-clearance vehicle. This popular trail head lot fills up quickly. PLEASE CARPOOL.
