Hiking - Merrill Creek Reservoir

Join us for a relatively easy and enjoyable 7-mile hike around the reservoir, passing some historic ruins of farm homesteads, many species of birds and even an eagle nesting area. Meet at the Visitor Center at 10am. Bring sturdy footwear, STABILicers/MICROspikes [if icy conditions], extra non-cotton layer, water, snacks/lunch, head-lamp and thermos [optional]. Heavy rain/snow cancels. Friendly dogs on leash welcomed. Please note cell phone reception and GPS satellite signal are poor at Merrill Creek. Visit the website provided below and bring written driving directions.  There are rest rooms and interesting exhibits at the Visitor's Center.  Optional after-hike refreshment stop at local eatery.

Thank you, Terry, for another great hike. A lot of hikers got scared away by the cold temps, but the weather was actually beautiful for a winter hike.

It was simply a gorgeous day at Merrill Creek. Sunny, beautiful deep snow, crisp breeze and a great group of hikers. We were so fortunate to witness the snow geese and their spectacular circular dance - wow! Thanks to Rich, Bob, Mark and Donna for their assistance in leading and sweeping the group. The after-hike was great; so much fun to socialize afterwards - thanks to all for joining me.

Merrill Creek is beautiful every season. The snow geese were stunning! Had a wonderful time frolicking in the snow with good friends. A great start to 2014 - thanks Terry!
