Easy 7-mile winter loop with gentle grades through southern Allamuchy State Park (named by the Lenape Indians, meaning "place within the hills"). Hike through lovely mixed hardwood forest, explore several loops and hike to the shores of Deer Park Pond. Wear sturdy footwear, bring snacks, lunch, and water. Several portions of trail may be wet and possibly icy; pack traction devices. Well behaved dogs on leash are welcome. Heavy rain/snow cancels. Optional post-hike refreshments at local eatery.
Meet at 10:00, Hackettstown Park & Ride lot on Route 517, adjacent to the Shell Station at Panther Valley. We will not meet at the trail-head; but rather shuttle from the Park & Ride.
