Brendan Byrne State Forest Hike (2B7)

  • Mar 15, 2014 · 10:00 AM

Please just us for a pre-spring loop hike that will follow the level and mostly sandy Cranberry Trail to Pakim Pond. We’ll travel at a moderate and steady pace. After walking around the pond there will be a lunch break beside the pond. Then we’ll return to where we began by way of the Batona Trail. The Batona Trail has a few ups and downs, but is fundamentally flat. Total distance is approximately 7 miles.  Bring water, snacks and lunch. Dress in layers. Optional post-hike meal.

The meeting place and time for the hike is 10:00 am in the Forest Office’s parking lot. From the traffic circle at the intersection of NJ 70 and NJ 72, follow NJ 72 east 1.0 mile and turn left at a sign for Brendan Byrne State
Forest. Take the first right (Shinns Road)and the Forest Office and its parking lot are on the left. A link for the Forest’s website is:

Hi Elisabeth, just checked with the Forest Ranger this morning and the snow is gone from the trails. Most areas are muck-free expect for the persistently-wet boardwalk area on the way back on the Batona Trail.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I've since committed to another activity. Hope to join you on another of your hikes.

Hoping you'll repeat this excursion when trails are less mucky.
