Battery to Bear Mt. Part 2: Fort Lee Historic Park-Long Path/Shore Trail Loop

An 8 mile hike at a moderate pace. Explore this historic location and then, depending on the size of the group, walk Burdette's Landing (see Wikipedia for info) in Edgewater Colony and the lesser-known, fabulous Carpenter's Trail, maybe twice. Great views. Meet 9:45, Fort Lee Historic Park pkg area for 10 a.m. start.

Directions: www.njpalisades.org. Bring food, water. Heavy rain cancels. Irv Reich  [masked]  [masked]

Subway trains running with delays. Will not be able to be in Fort Lee by 9:45. See you next time!

So I have been a member here but have not actually found enough time to try it out. I would like to go Monday but I was wondering if it would be ok to bring my dog with me she is a really experienced hiker herself but not all places are dog friendly. Can I bring her along with me? It may be a determining factor if I can come at all.

Since a number of people already made a commitment to attend and I had not said it would be dog friendly I think it better if we kept it people friendly. Sorry (BTW, I would not object)

Ya I'm just puppy sitting and not sure how I feet about leaving them home alone for that long. The one I'm watching is not as well house broken as my dog.

Irv, I'm sorry I had to cancel. I didn't realize I had booked two events on the same day. The last hike was fantastic.

I'm taking NJ Transit bus 158 from Port Authority. Does anyone know which stop in Fort Lee I'd need to get out at to be near our meet-up point?

Irv, I may be able to go if I can use either train or bus from NYC. Thanks

Hi Irv, You are one of the nicest people to hike with! I will most likely come to the hike if I can make it back from two hikes in a row on Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully, making this a possible three in a row! Easiest way for me to come is crossing over the GWB and walk down to Fort Lee Historic Park.

This is our second part of our journey from the Ferry to Bear Mtn. Come for all or part - everyone is invited. Part two will be an interesting, fun sociable workout with plenty of time to take great pictures.

The only public trans I know is to take the train to the GWB and then a bus over bridge, The park is not far from there.

New Jersey Transit Bus from Port Authority is other choice. Bus #158 will stop near the park entrance.
