FOOTHILLS WRITERS: THIS GROUP IS CURRENTLY FULL

Applegate AWA

"A writer is someone who writes."--Pat Schneider. Pat Schneider founded Amherst Writers and Artists over thirty years ago. It is now used by novices and professional writers to generate new pieces of poetry, fiction or memoir. Sometimes writers use it to work on longer pieces that are already in process. Whatever you like to write, this group will energize your creativity and relax your inner critic and strengthen your voice. In other words--it's play with a purpose.

We write twice for fifteen minutes and give feedback after each write. I provide prompts that will help you get started but you don't have to write to the prompt. You're welcome to write anything you want.

No one has to read their new work but if you decide to share you'll receive honest, positive feedback. The listening process is equally helpful in improving our writing as it helps us hear what's working.

Feedback doesn't require a writing background. It's simply based on what stayed with you and what you liked in the piece being discussed, such as word choice, imagery, metaphor, honesty of voice.

The two hour session flies by and writers report feeling uplifted after writing together. This group meets for four weeks then breaks for one. Most of the members have been writing in this group for several years. It's a warm, welcoming group. Bring your creative self and a notepad.

GRASS VALLEY CREATIVE WRITING GROUP

Private Residence

$15.00

Bring a notepad and a desire to write. I'll provide prompts and guide us in the AWA (Amherst Writers and Artists) writing process. It's a great way to strengthen your voice, establish a writing practice and sharpen your ear for what works to create strong pieces of memoir, poetry or fiction. We create two new drafts each meeting. I provide the prompts, you write what comes to you and, if you choose to, you can read it to the group. If you read we'll give you honest, positive feedback. You're also welcome to add to an ongoing project like a novel. This is a great way to have fun with other writers and create new pieces for a family album or for submission. AWA groups are used by professionals and novice writers alike to create new work and keep the creative spirit flowing. We meet in a four week session and then break for a week.
