What we're about

The purpose of this Meetup is to provide a social outlet for everyone interested in architecture to exchange ideas, obstacles, and successes. I believe cross pollination leads to surprising solutions and deep friendships, and in time I hope this Meetup achieves those goals.

We're passionate about architecture and the built world. We grow by exchanging ideas and learning from others, so whether you're an architecture enthusiast or a seasoned technologist, all are welcome.

We'll have discussions about what's interesting about design, emerging technologies, urban planning and much more. We could see some movies, visit some great buildings, or just enjoy some coffee and company.

If you have any questions, you can email me at hntrclement@gmail.com, or connect with me on LinkedIn here (https://www.linkedin.com/in/hunterclement/).

We're Architects in Vancouver, and we look forward to meeting you!

For people looking to connect with architects in the profession, check out the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (https://aibc.ca/). They regulate the licensing process, and host some of the best architecture events in town.

If you want to dive further into the design world, here are some great sources:

• 99% Invisible Podcast (https://99percentinvisible.org/): "Design is everywhere in our lives, perhaps most importantly in the places where we've just stopped noticing. 99% Invisible is a weekly exploration of the process and power of design and architecture."

• ArchDaily (https://www.archdaily.com/): "Inspiration and knowledge to help architects build better cities. Over the next 10 years 18 billion sqm of space will be designed by architects to shelter 1.5 billion people. ArchDaily serves as architects' main source for tools, information and inspiration."

• Out of the Blocks Podcast (https://www.npr.org/podcasts/451202110/out-of-the-blocks-on-w-y-p-r): "Out of the Blocks is a uniquely immersive listening experience that emerges from a mosaic of voices and soundscapes on the streets of Baltimore. A custom-tailored score colors and connects this tapestry of stories hidden in plain sight"

• McMansion Hell (http://mcmansionhell.com/): "McMansionHell is a bi-weekly blog that aims to educate the masses about architectural concepts, urban planning, environmentalism and history by making examples out of the places we love to hate the most: the suburbs."

Women in Architecture - Supporting Inclusivity in Architecture

From the event page: https://aibc.ca/event/women-in-architecture-supporting-inclusivity-in-architecture/ (This link is currently not working; I'll keep you posted when it does) Discussions surrounding immigration, gender equality, the prevalence of harassment in and outside of the workplace, and discrimination of all kinds are at the forefront of contemporary discourse. How are these issues playing out within the profession of architecture? How do the experiences of becoming licensed, of working in the profession, and of starting a practice differ for different demographic groups? What tools do we have to identify and assess these differences and what tools can we develop or promote in order to support and transition towards a more inclusive profession? This session presents the data, asks for more, and invites you to become part of the solution. Date: March 28, 2019 Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. Location: Diamond Schmitt Architects,[masked] West Pender Street, Vancouver Cost: $6 Learning Units (LUs): 1 Non-core
