Archway is an artists-owned and operated gallery with a great selection of affordable, high quality art including sculpture, pottery and painting in a variety of media and styles. Each month features a special exhibition by a highlighted member artist(s); the public is invited to the monthly opening receptions to celebrate the new installations and work, usually held the first Saturday of each month from 5 – 8 pm.
In addition to monthly exhibitions, Archway also hosts a variety of demonstrations and monthly readings for local writers and authors, as well as a “Tea and Tour” program, providing visitors with a free artist-led tour of the current exhibition, followed by tea and refreshments.
Archway Gallery is pleased to present Woodland Waters: Allures of the Ozarks, a solo exhibition of recent paintings by landscape painter Harold Joiner. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, February 2, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The artist will be present at the reception and will give a short talk at 6:30 p.m.
Long fascinated by the reflections and stillness of the waters of Houston and the surrounding area, painter Harold Joiner has ventured further afield with this new body of work. Recent explorations and hiking expeditions in the Arkansas Ozarks revealed exciting new possibilities for the treatment of water in landscape paintings. In addition to still water ponds and their reflections, the Ozarks offer the prospects of crystal clear bodies of water and dramatic cascades over ancient rocks and outcroppings. Surrounded as these waters are by dense deciduous forests, the seasons provide rich opportunities for beautiful color in paintings. Joiner has sought to capitalize on these opportunities in this body of work.
