Argentine Tango is a partner dance that developed over the last century in Argentina's capital city, Buenos Aires. It is different from Tango in International and American ballroom dancing. Rather than focusing on showmanship as in choreographed tango, or on competition as in ballroom tango Argentine Tango is an improvisational social dance that allows the dancers to develop a deep connection between themselves, the music, and the surroundings in which they are dancing.
Over the last decades Tango has become a popular dance form with thriving communities in all cities over the world who promote the dance, and organize dance socials. Think: Never be a stranger anymore no matter where you travel to - there's a local milonga everywhere.
Agreed, learning Tango is a challenge. It takes a while to acquire the skills necessary to get really enjoyable dances out of it. But let me tell you it is well worth the effort. There is no maximum age for Tango. You can do it all your life - the sooner you start the better. Of course you can try ballroom, swing or batchata but I promise you they won't catch you like Tango does.
I created this meetup group for people new to Tango and who are interested in knowing what it's about. I will post local Tango events happening in the area to this group. There will be beginner-friendly events which is a great way to get started.
Please, feel free to join the group if you're up for the challenge to learning something completely new and mindful like Argentine Tango.
