So Dave has been helping me expand my horizons...be they future L.E.O. Evasion horizons, or be they just being out in the wild and being able to go more places than before.
Well, yeah...we are getting into climbing. That isn't to say there isn't already great experience, we have a good, experienced reference for sure. But, to be perfectly clear, this is not going to be the overbearing strict and regimented classroom style environment of groups such as AMC and the like.
Here, we will learn how to do this shit...safely...with zero tolerance for fucking around. Why? Well, because if we go this direction and we are climbing a wall someday, well, the absolute last thing I want you to do is fuck around while I am connected to you via rope.
This climbing is serious. There are repercussions. You will be responsible for your own actions...each and every time you tie-in to a rope. Knowing that, we will be approaching all of this with a safety-first attitude. When you are on a rope, there are no exceptions.
All of the above said, we aren't going out and taking on a big-wall, we are working on fundamentals in the gym.
The Phoenix Rock Gym is a great place with lots of variety. There is a fee to go to the gym (nothing but actual rock is free), and if you do not have shoes or a harness, you can rent them for an additional charge. All-in-all I know it's less than 20 bucks. Perhaps 15...I don't know and I am too lazy to google it.
Dave and I are going...you go too! We can do beers & bullshit at Minder Binders afterwards!
Calendaring weekly for now, as we are a bit away from getting out on real rock. Come on out and learn with me!
