Details

Hello everyone, we are excited to have Steve Williams, VP of Business Intelligence from International Cruise & Excursions (ICE), give an exciting talk on the use of advanced analytics and the SQL Server 2016 ecosystem.

Summary:

With SQL Server 2016, external script languages were introduced to SQL Server, starting with R and continuing with Python in SQL Server 2017. Each R session that I attended was about statistics, anomaly detection, or forecasting. We won't be talking about any of those things! What can R do to make the average DBAs life easier? How about telling you which row and column of data is causing that "String or Binary data will be truncated" error, or easily determining where non-printable and control characters are embedded in your data? This session will have several demos, and will open your eyes to the many uses of R.

Speaker Bio:

Steve is a data platform and analytics professional that runs the data and analytics department at a local phoenix company. He started his career in support of applications running on SQL Server, then became a Microsoft certified database administrator. After doing DBA work for many years, he moved more into the analytics/bi space. His unique ability to understand both business and technical requirements helped elevate his career. In his spare time he enjoys golf, boating, and camping.
