One of the best developer meetups I've ever been to. So glad I was well enough to attend. Great presentations on Sass and VVV.

Hope everyone had a great Meet-up. I had too much work so I opted to make money repairing a server rather than show up... I also found the NorthWest Meetup group much closer to my home so I may be going to those meetings before shosing Scottsdale, slthough I need to network as much as posible so please let me know what happens at Scotsdale Meets. I am mixed between making a living at WordPress and other programming as well. I have only been submitting Themes since March and have 12 Themes live. My aproach is unique and hope to find work with professionals of like kind.

I'm a PHP guru yet one day I decided I was tired of not find good themes for my clients and just tried building one and it was easy. So now I never download or buy themes I just make them to spec of my customer. thsi way I do not have to relearn someone elses theme layout - I am able to follow a framework that I know since I have built it.

Howdy, Just poking my nose in on group. Is there a North Phoenix Meetup location/day? Also if anyone would like to help me discover API for theme options to upload images for a slideshow. I have slideshow built on pure CSS3 (no java!). Need to complete upload as attachment and parse to "post-type" for `slider.php` as custom post type template.

    Maura on SaSS
Seth on custom WP Options class
    Jason on VVV

Maura and Jason, can you please confirm?

trisha, I'd look at the "bones" or _s frameworks then. they are the most widely accepted I believe.

For Topic #1, would you rather hear about the WordPress CLI (bet you didn't even know about this!) or Learning about SaSS to control and minify your CSS?

+1 on CLI. I use SaSS, so either would be great.

I would like to get your views on plugin dev and get a look at your boilerplate you mentioned. When do you think that will be available?

I've been discussing this with other developers lately. We can definately address some of this at the meetup if you bring up the question.

I have a topic. Let's say I'm building more of a web app with a lot of added functionality (multiple object classes, etc.) and I put it into a plugin to keep it separate from the theme. In Drupal, a lot of their modules (aka plugins) have dependencies (meaning the module requires other third-party modules to be installed to work). I haven't seen much of this in WordPress, aside from small plugins that extend more major plugins. Is it considered bad practice to require certain plugins to be installed and activated in order for a custom plugin to work?

Interesting topic choice. I actually recently had this discussion with another developer. In general"child plugins" is the only real dependency model I have seen. But if your talking about multiple plugins required for a plugin to work that may not be "the WordPress way". That is not to say however that it couldn't be done. You could start by checking out this class: http://tgmpluginactiv.... I'm not sure enough other developers have tried drupal to make this a full fledged meetup topic, but I'd love to hear other peoples opinion in here!
