Our book for April was recommended by one of our wonderful members (and was nabbed from another wonderful member by your humble organizer during our holiday book exchange). Description below.
PLEASE make sure we know at least 24 hours in advance if you sign up, but later cannot attend. We will be booking the location the day before we meet, and our final count of confirmed attendees will be made at that time. The amount of people signed up will dictate our choice of venue, and it's very discourteous to the hosting restaurant if we are way off from our headcount, which could end up limiting future reservations.
Richly told and profoundly moving, Pachinko is a story of love, sacrifice, ambition, and loyalty. From bustling street markets to the halls of Japan's finest universities to the pachinko parlors of the criminal underworld, Lee's complex and passionate characters--strong, stubborn women, devoted sisters and sons, fathers shaken by moral crisis--survive and thrive against the indifferent arc of history.
