I traveled around the world alone for a year after college, I climbed Kilimanjaro, went piranha fishing in the Amazon and scuba dived with sharks feeding on a nearby reef in French Polynesia. I also contracted typhoid in Northern Thailand, had a machete pulled on me in Morocco, got stuck in an underwater cave in Australia and got chased out of a hotel room in Indonesia by giant warf rats. Remaining on my bucket list are Cuba, Madagascar,, the Maldive Islands and Sri Lanka.
I'm conversational in Italian but far from fluent. Sorry. Not interested in new languages. I'm still working on Italian, which is simply the hardest thing I've ever done in my life with the exception of writing about University of Colorado football this fall.
I've researched and written more than 80 travel stories from four dozen countries. I'm a very good source of information for anyone who wants to know how to get off the beaten path and how to beat prices.
My name is John and I'm a writer of sports, food and travel. I've been to 90 countries and lived in Rome for a year and a half as a free-lance travel writer. I'd love to hear travel stories over good food, better wine and great friends.
