Here is a brief synopsis of the next book club selection: Z stands for Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald, a southern socialite best known as the wife of F Scott Fitzgerald, novelist and writer of The Great Gatsby. She was an icon of the 1920s Jazz Age generation and was dubbed 'the first American Flapper" by her husband. A complex and talented person in her own right, this novel tells the story from her perspective of a vibrant personality, a tumultuous marriage strained by alcohol abuse and infidelity, unfulfilled career aspirations and her own desire for recognition. It shines the light on Zelda and gives her a voice that she struggled to assert during her short and troubled life. Subject to dramatic mood swings and behaviours, Zelda is thought to have suffered from bipolar disorder which finally resulted in a complete breakdown in early 1930. She spent the rest of her life struggling with mental health issues. Looking forward to seeing everyone!
