What we're about

This group is for all of us who are true lovers of nature and want to get out and do some plein air painting, photography, bird watching, or just enjoy being outdoors. Now that the weather is cooling off, let's grab our paints (or any other medium you may prefer), our cameras, and our binoculars and go out for a picnic, great conversation, and creativity. With the abundance of rain we've had this year it looks like it may be a spectacular time in the desert this fall and winter. The location of these outings will be primarily located in the beautiful East Valley, with its panoramic views, spectacular canyons and lush vegetation. Keep in mind that this is not a hiking group. You will not need your parka, your sleeping bag, or your climbing spikes. The most we ask is that you might want to bring a sandwich and something to drink, and maybe a folding chair, but most of all bring your curiosity, passion, and love of being out in nature.

We will be driving into the wilderness and setting up our tripods and easels at various locations for an afternoon of creativity and camaraderie with like minded people. This could mean a few hours of sunshine, and occasionally involve a sunset and campfire. If you find yourself unable to part with your IPad, your cellphone services, or your television for more than a few hours, well....this group is probably not for you. If you find yourself bored at the thought of having no drama or distractions to focus on then please....stay home. But if you can see the magic...the compelling and primeval exquisiteness that stirs your soul...then I need say no more but simply....join us.

As organizer of this Meetup, I invite you to come and enjoy the beauty and inspiration of the Sonoran Desert. As an experienced artist I would be more than happy to share my knowledge of the desert as well as my artistic techniques. I also welcome any knowledge or experience you wish to share. We will be meeting at the Starbucks in Apache Junction as a starting point.

And needless to say, most of our journeys will require a vehicle that can accommodate unpaved and sometimes rough terrain as in rocks, deep sand, steep grades, etc. No, this doesn't mean anything crazy. We don't do crazy, so any stock high clearance vehicle will do. And if you are without, car pooling is always a possibility.
