    Interested in finding out about Visual Thinking Strategies or keen to practice your VTS skills with colleagues? Join VTS trainer, Carly Grace for a fun Saturday art session focusing on connecting with contemporary arts practice. The group will have the opportunity to experience current Melbourne exhibitions through guided VTS discussions. Artworks will be sequenced to unpack contemporary art concepts and to further understand how VTS works. Each session will include practical VTS demonstrations in the galleries where participants will learn about the key components this strategy. This will be followed by a discussion about how VTS can be used to make meaningful connections with contemporary Australian art. For participants who are experienced with VTS, feedback and coaching will be provided to further develop your skills. This professional learning session is recommended for people who are interested in VTS.     Timed to coincide with the NGV Triennial and ACCA’s Unfinished Business, the 2018 Annual Conference will be based at Testing Grounds and operate across a number of venues. The conference will feature acclaimed artists Sally Smart, Juan Ford, Michael Peck, Emily Floyd, Sophie Takách, Emma Davies, and Hermès artisans. The 2018 Annual Conference will be an amazing opportunity to develop your skills, get inspired by contemporary artists, make strong connections with other art educators, and become empowered in your role regardless of your current skill level. You will also have an opportunity to join celebrated STEAM educator Meg Kingwell in discovering meaningful learning experiences using virtual reality (VR) with students.     Join Art Education Victoria for an end of year celebration at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA). We will be revealing the new Art Education Victoria brand identity and website (with a big shout out to the folks at Principle Design (http://principledesign.com.au)), and share our positioning for the future. The evening will feature a preview of Sovereignty (https://www.accaonline.org.au/exhibition/sovereignty), an exhibition focussing upon contemporary art of First Nations peoples of South East Australia, alongside keynote historical works, to explore culturally and linguistically diverse narratives of self-determination, identity, sovereignty and resistance.     To coincide with 2/52 TAP2016, Exhibition and National TAP Symposia, Art Education Victoria (AEV) is facilitating an artist teacher/art educator panel seminar in conjunction with the Teacher as Artmaker Project (TAP) at the Melbourne Graduate School of Edcuation. AEV Vice President, Kathryn Coleman and Councillor, Tahlia Jolly will facilitate this panel presentation with selected exhibiting TAP2016 artist teachers and Melbourne based art educators. The panel discussion will focus on the benefits of creative practice to teaching and learning, struggles of sustained practice, and strategies for developing simultaneous identities. This will be a great chance to consider the connection between art making and education and to network with high profile artist educators.
