Join us for the May bank holiday weekend to relax, stretch and walk along the beautiful north Kent Coast on the Isle of Thanet.

We will walk and breathe fresh sea air, full of negative ions and chi or prana to recharge and energise our bodies and spirits.

About the area you'll be walking in

Thanet is believed to get its name from the Phoenician Goddess Tanit. There are several holiday towns here such as Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgatre. We will be staying in the coastal village of Birchington On Sea. The Birchington Heritage Trust aims to research, record and discover Birchington's 3,500 year history. and has many historic pictures of the area on-line at:

Thanet is where the Vikings first landed in Britain in 449 AD, and we will be walking along some of the most beautiful sections of the 27 mile Viking Coastal Trail.

Turner, Britain's best known painter, who was inspired to paint by the area, remarked that "the skies over Thanet are the loveliest in all Europe".

Charles Dickens, who spent many of his summers by Broadstairs, was also inspired by the area, and wrote some of his classic's here. Many of his well known and loved characters are based on local people that he knew here.

We will walk along the viking coastal trail to to Margate, the traditional seaside resort, which is making a revival and has been tipped as one of the top 10 places in the world to visit in 2013 by the Rough Guide's Annual Travel Hotlist.

The Rough Guide cited recent developments such as the Turner Contemporary Art Gallery, and the town's “indie art spaces”, “vintage shops” and “cute cafés”, which can be explored if there is time during our walks.

Rossetti Lodge

We will stay at Rossetti Lodge, which was built in 1910 for the Reverend of Birchington's All Saints' church, which is the burial place of the 19th century Pre-Raphaelite artist, Dante Gabriel Rossetti.

It is being renovated for yoga and workshop spaces, with a main yoga area with Aikido mats, which are firm, but softer then yoga mats for the body. There is also a second yoga space with ropes and hammocks for aerial/anti-gravity yoga.

Anti-gravity yoga is a fun and effective form of yoga that is now being taken up in this country by many, including celebrities like Geri Harriwell. It was recently demonstrated on the Alan Titchmarsh programme and on Loose Women.

If you have never done anti-gravity yoga, don't worry as it is completely optional and you can stay on the mat if you prefer. Those that want to try it will be shown how to do it and will have ample opportunities to practice and enjoy.

Rossetti Lodge is still in the process of renovation and transformation but as you can see from the photos - it is welcoming, cosy, all facilities are ready and the cost is low.
