Michael Hull, author of several plugins in the WordPress repository and Core Contributor, will talk about PHP unit testing.
In this session, we'll discuss unit testing with PHPUnit (https://phpunit.de/) in the context of authoring WordPress plugins.
This is considered an advanced session as we are discussing code and not the usage/maintenance of a WordPress site as an administrator or author. In order to benefit from the talk, attendees should have some interest in writing PHP code. We will try to have relevant content for PHP coders of all experience levels.
We will focus on how to utilize the test cases and factory methods provided by WordPress core via WP-CLI (https://wp-cli.org/).
We'll also explore some examples that illustrate the concept of Test-Driven Development, whose main premise is that we should write a particular test before writing the code that it will test.
We will not spend time during the talk discussing how to install PHPUnit or WP-CLI, but we'll welcome questions from anyone who has visited the above links, attempted to install either program, and run into obstacles.
