We will talk in English and Mandarin.
If you would like to share in English and Mandarin (as a speaker on an American topic - or a Chinese topic interesting to Americans) from 7:00 to 7:20 pm, e-mail in advance. We are scheduling bilingual speakers to show off their talents to advanced through beginning Mandarin speakers.
6:00 - 7:00 pm - informal chat and getting to know others
7:00 - 7:30 pm - bilingual (English and Mandarin) "guest" speaker
7:30 - 8:00 pm - question and answer - bilingual (English and Mandarin)
Mandarin-English "guest" speakers are invited to submit an idea for a bilingual talk.
All participants need to register IN ADVANCE to get the location at HSPH and to get permission.
While it is not required and those who do NOT know Mandarin will be able to get by, it is STRONGLY recommended you have 'conversational listening' skills in Mandarin that are adequate for you to understand the talk and conversation in this group
E-Mail [masked] and [masked] (with first and last name as they appear on the ID you present to the HSPH security guard) to register your intent - AND also sign YES on this meetup.
If you don't HAVE a Harvard ID, we need your request for admission on Tuesday evening to be COMPLETED by 4 pm the day before the event. NOT registering in advance will leave out at the building security guard's desk. IF you bring guests, their names are also required so that they can also get building passes.
Asians (and friends of Asian) who don't speak in Mandarin will be able to understand what is happening but will not enjoy the evening as much.
