Such relief to find this group and Dr Kathy! Had almost given up on seeking support and information. These are real people and it doesn't matter that they'e on the other side of the world, I'm rather technologically challenged but am trying to listen to teleconferences, and with the help of my beautiful AS son's technical brain may even be able to join in some time!

My biggest challenge is the "aloneness"--and the longing to connect with others who are living out this very unique walk with AS. That helps so much and I'm so glad to have found this group!

This book and group has been a Godsend to me. Have been married 23 yrs and only found out 5 yrs ago that my husband most definitely has Asperger's. It has explained and reinforced all those odd personality/character/behavior traits that I've been living with all these years. Now that we have both recently retired and are together 24/7 I'm finding living with my Aspie is more of a challenge than ever. I appreciate all the reinforcement and 'help' that this group can provide to help make my marriage at least somewhat bearable on this fulltime scale.

The site is wonderful as it is open, diverse, has people at all stages of "knowledge," and partners of aspies who want to stay, must stay, and some going. All receive support and ideas. Some are in severe situations, others have found partial balms and accomodations...truth seems to be told, accepted, shared and even empathized with. Empathy sometimes given, we all need it. Thank you. But do not like bulletin board as much with the folder setup, limits free thought.

It's a great mission, like leading a group exiles out of Egypt. After ventilation and divorce, I want to know more about how to move on. I would encourage everyone in this relationship leave and I deeply feel sorry for new wives to jump into this kind of relationship. My case is not worth to save.

  • Asperger Syndrome: Partners & Family of Adults with ASD

As a mother of 2 small children under 2 years old, a recently diagnosed HF Autistic 13 year old stepdaughter and a recently diagnosed Aspie husband, I am overwhelmed. Having found this support group and having met a neighbor with an Aspie son was a lifesaver as I felt no one really understood/understands what it is like living with someone with Aspergers or HF Autism unless you have experienced it. Prior to finding this group and meeting my neighbor I found myself frustrated explaining "events" to my family therapist that made no sense trying to understand what in the world was happening. Why are there sudden rude angry outbursts that make no sense, executive function, thought process and reasoning skills that are not typical, unexplainable lack of consideration or lack of empathy and why was it so hard to be understood? In this group, I received affirmation that I am not alone experiencing these things and am so very grateful for Kathy & everyone for opening up and sharing. Thank you.

It's a challenge, but I have hope that between support groups like this, individual therapy, church/spiritual support, working out, journaling, connecting with supportive friends, I will be able to have a fulfilling life. It can be depressing, but I control my destiny...not Mr. Grumpy man, uh, I mean my husband :)

Wonderful to finally have other people to chat with about these issues after 25 years. Never found other people locally to help / understand - even 90% of therapists have no clue what you are dealing with on a daily basis.

  • Asperger Syndrome: Partners & Family of Adults with ASD

Hi Everybody: It was so reaffirming to hear how you process feelings Dr. Kathy I agree that all of us need to find ways to take care of ourselves and surround ourselves with emotionally available caring people. It is important to remind ourselves that our Aspie spouses and children lack empathy; have difficulty picking up on cues of how we are feeling and what we might like to create some kind of connection. It's hard for me to ask but I've learned to do that more

It has been such a revelation to learn there are others in almost identical circumstances, usually with their marriage partner. Interesting that so many more women are learning to live with an Aspie partner, but the one or two male voices are invaluable, as they add perspective and information. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Kathy and others, who have given this much-needed resource and, let's face it, place to vent!

People who are just learning about Aspergers in their loved ones, friends, and co-workers may find a lot of support in this group. Since this is really a support and resource group, not a therapy group, there is a most welcome social aspect for those people whose social lives have become limited as a result of accomodating their AS family members.

When my husband of 36 years was diagnosed with Asperger's 15 months ago, I surfed the web forums' available looking for support. This forum is the one I return to regularly, often on a weekly basis. Its participants are balanced, educated fair-minded people concerned for both themselves and their AS partner's well-being. Forum members support others regardless of their decision to leave or stay with the AS partner. I have come back to this forum repeatedly during times of crisis. Thankyou, Kathy, without it I would not have coped as well as I have.
