Movie with a Mission...

Movie:  The Healing Passage: Voices From The Water

The movie screening is followed by a Dialogue...stay and join the conversation.

How do we heal from the residuals of The Middle Passage? Cultural artists, along with historians and healers, look at present day behavior that is connected to the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. For more than 300 years Africans were carried from their homeland, across the Atlantic Ocean (“The Middle Passage”), into chattel slavery in the Americas and the Caribbean. The residual impact of this African Holocaust still reverberates in the world today through psychological trauma, genetic memory, personal and community consciousness. The artists use music, dolls, dance, altars, spoken word, visual art and ritual to create paths to healing.

There is No Charge, but you must Register Here.  Space is limited.

This is one of our outreach efforts as we support SankofaSpirit.org, a 501[c]3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing cultural and educational programs and services that focus on Africa and the African Diaspora.

Excellent dialogue, excellent movie. OUR PEOPLE ARE SO DEEPLY CONNECTED YET DISCONNECTED. I urge us to find therapy even if we don't think we have issues, usually that's when issues have us.

Registration is closed. Can I still attend?

    February 9, 2014

There is a seating capacity at the library. As of now, they have standing room only. Honestly, I don't think there is a possibility, however, as has been my past experiences, people who RSVP don't always show up. I just can't tell you one way or the other if you should take your chances and attend...sorry.

Nathalie, you should send her your ticket.

I had to change my rsvp to "no", but I maybe able to make it there but I'll be a little late

Hi Eddie, sorry you can't make it, but I think they are going to be at capacity. If anything, standing room only, especially if you come late. If you decide to come, don't forget your ticket from Eventbrite.

Hello. When using eventbrite tickets, do you have to print them, or can you just show them to the clerk on your phone's screen?

    February 8, 2014

    • Carolyn

Authur, I would thin that you can show them on your phone screen since you are given that option. I do not anticipate a problem. I am considering don g that myself. See you there.

I've RSVP'd but confused about the event brite references. Is there something else to be completed? I'm very interested in the movie topic.

    February 7, 2014

    • Carolyn

You must RSVP on Eventbrite. There is a capacity and it is monitored through their Eventbrite registration. The posting and RSVP on this site is so we know how many of our members are attending overall. Sorry if I was not clear enough on the posting.

On the eventbrite site it says the movie is on the 8th and to make a donation on the 9th. I,m confused.

    February 1, 2014

    • Carolyn

The movie is on the 9th. It is set up that way to accept donations, because you can RSVP for the movie without a payment. That is why it is set up that way. Any othr questions, please feel free to continue conversation, or call me at 678.231.4973. Hope to see you there.

Carolyn, I will be bringing my 12 yr old daughter, but I only RSVPd for myself, can you update that for me?

    February 1, 2014

    • Carolyn

That's great. I believe, once you go to the Eventbrite page to register, (the link in the description) you can register for your daughter. Should you have any problems, let me know.
