DUI Demo Tour at Dive Alabama

What is a DUI Demo Tour? Well, it's got nothing to do with going to jail! Diving Unlimited International is one of the world's premier manufacturers of drysuits and related diving equipment. This is your chance to see what it's like to go diving while staying warm and dry - no experience necessary! Professionals from DUI will be on hand to get you fitted and paired with an instructor who will give you the lowdown on diving dry and then take you on a tour of the quarry, all in the comfort of your own cozy and warm drysuit. If you've thought about diving dry or just thought about how nice it would be to go diving in cold water, while staying nice and warm, this is a great opportunity.

Cost is $15, including lunch plus $25 admission fee to Dive Alabama.

For those of you that have not attended this event, it's very popular & parking is limited. We arrived last year when the gates were scheduled to open, the parking lot was nearly full & we were lucky enough to get one of the last spaces.

This year, a couple of us are planning to leave earlier & arrive by 8:00 a.m. local time. We plan to carpool from the Post Rd Park & Ride located just north of the I-20 Post Rd exit ramp in Douglas County. Our plan is to meet at 6:45 a.m., & leave at 7:00 a.m.

Any divers that want to join our early bird carpool are welcome, but make sure you arrive at the Park & Ride before we plan to leave. With all the stuff we're bringing, we can't afford to miss one of the nearby parking spots!

We'll set up a tent & hang the Aquanauts Banner so that club members arriving later can easily find the Aquanauts home base. If no one is at the tent when you arrive, just hang out, we're probably in the water but should return shortly.

Tom - I'm driving to B-Ham tonight and staying with my buddy (and dive partner). I'll make sure I get a dive in with you guys tomorrow. Safe travels and see everyone there.

Is anyone looking to car pool over to the dive. I live in Tucker and can drive or meet someone somewhere.

Like all dives, open water certification is always required, but you don't need to be dry suit certified to try out DUIs products at this event. DUI provides a safety diver for groups of divers that are not certified for dry suit diving. Those divers are limited to diving with the DUI safety diver.

Maybe a dumb question, but do the divers have to be certified?

    April 21, 2014

    • Matt

      Yes, divers must be certified.

For those that have not yet purchased DUI DEMOTOUR tickets, I heard rumors of a tip that might save you some cash. Per order tickets are $10 and onsite they are $15, but evidently you can buy one and get a second admission for free with your DAN membership. So if you're a DAN member, you may be able to get in at the gate for $7.50 each. You might also be able to buy two of the advance online tickets for $10 rather than $10 each with your DAN number.

I purchased my ticket a few weeks ago, so I've not personally verified this information, but it may be worth looking into if you've not yet paid.
