7:30 – 8:00PM – Q&A, Networking

Traditionally, cybersecurity practitioners have come from deeply and/or exclusively technical backgrounds, with academic studies in the fields of computer science and engineering. As the cybersecurity field has grown and matured, and demand for professionals has increased, opportunities for non-traditional candidates in cybersecurity have also increased. The speaker will describe his career path from a liberal arts bachelor's degree to a 10+ year career in cybersecurity. Audience members will leave this session with concrete strategies for a cybersecurity career, whether starting from a traditional or nontraditional background.

Speaker Bio:
Shea Nangle is the Federal Practice Lead at Leviathan Security Group, an international information security consultancy based in Seattle, Washington. Prior to Leviathan, he worked in a variety of domestic and international settings, ranging from a 2 employee startup to a 20,000+ employee multinational. Some of his areas of professional interest include operational security, open source intelligence, growth stage companies, and crisis management.

To predict the future, cybersecurity practitioners commonly look at trends to give them insight into what’s in store for cybersecurity. In this talk, recent cybersecurity trends in the industry will be examined, and expectations for 2020 (and beyond) based on previous trends will be presented. Topics that the speaker will cover includes: IoT, education & security awareness, shift left security, artificial intelligence/machine learning, compliance, and more! By the end of the talk, the audience will have a better understanding of cybersecurity trends, what to expect in the future, and what organizations can do to be ready for emerging threats and digital transformation.
