"Musical Stars" at the Emory Planetarium Vega String Quartet FREE!

Planning these events is a double-edged sword.  The more events that are planned the more emails you may receive.

“Make these emails STOP!” you say.

Actually, you can control the email you receive from this group.

Go into “my profile” and then to “emails and notifications.”  From here you can control what you receive and when you receive it.

In this way, you’ll still attend lots of events and not be bothered with annoying emails!  (<:

Join physicist Richard Williamon, director of the Emory Planetarium, as he traces the past, present, and future history of our knowledge of the star Vega, the brightest star in the constellation Lyra, with performances by the Vega String Quartet, the brightest musical stars of Emory!

The works to be performed are unknown at this time.

Hi All! Domenic Salerni here, first fiddle of Vega Quartet. I'm so glad to know you guys came to our concert!! Please check our website for upcoming events (www.vegaquartet.com) and if there are a bunch of people coming, shoot us an email at [masked], as we will definitely see if there's anything we can do to accommodate everyone.

We were overwhelmed by the attendance at our Planetarium event last Friday, which was flattering, but also not logistically ideal. I am in the process of figuring out what more we can do on our end to make sure a similar situation doesn't happen again, but I wanted to thank all of you personally for your enthusiasm and especially wanted to encourage you to attend our events in other venues at Emory.

We perform a Noontime Series at the Carlos Museum usually Fridays during the semester (which also fills up quickly) but our main events are in Emerson Hall at the Schwartz Center, which seats 800+.

All Vega events this year are free!

    Thank you all!

I was also turned away - after an entire bus of senior citizens was sent back home! Probably requiring RSVPs by large groups attending would have been helpful.

By my comment, I meant that the planetarium organizers probably could have required the RSVPs, not you, Steve! As Michael said, there were lots of people being turned away. It's nice that so many were interested in the concert and lecture - I'm sure the organizers will take note of this for similar future events!

Thank you Virginia, that's really what I meant to say.
It's great that this event generated such an interest level, it's just too bad a lot of folks made a bit of a trek to get there and were turned away.
Perhaps they'll do a 'repeat performance' so we can all have another shot at it.
      :-)

Music plus astronomy. I was one of the fortunate who got there early.

FYI this is a very small auditorium. There are only 56 seats.

I have been in this auditorium before, but I didn't realize that it is so small. If I had realized this, I would have advised the potential attendees via a comment here.

    What a shame.
I didn't know that place was so small.

Got here about 5 mins ago and they are turning folks away at door. Guessed they reached full capacity at 6:30 - sorry I missed it. Seems like there are at least 1 hundred that have been turned away.

Seats are filling up rather quickly! I'd say its about 85% full now. Maybe we can meet outside afterwards for those of us who can stick around

What is the parking situation at the Planetarium?

Below is a link to a map that is better than the map in link #1 above. P-1 is Fishburne; P-3 is Oxford Road parking; P-6 is Peavine Deck.

      http://arts.emory.edu...

According to info in link #1 in my previous post, parking is free at both Fishburne and Oxford Road after 7:00. The second link indicates that Fishburne "opens at 6:00 p.m. for evening events, Monday-Friday." I think that means it's free after 6:00. Note about parking at the Oxford Road Building: If you enter the deck before 6:45, you'll have to pay $4.00 to exit the deck. In case the event is well-attended, you might want to arrive before 6:45 to get the best seats.

Hints if parking on campus is proving problematic: Park at the bank across the road from the main entrance to Emory or at the bank across from the Schwartz Center on N. Decatur.

We need a host for this event. I have a conflict. All you do is hold a sign you print out. Please email me directly if interested.
