I enjoyed the music, meeting some new members of the group, and re-connecting with a few people I already knew. (Jeanne, thanks for hosting.) A congenial group of seven managed to connect to hear music selected from the Atlanta Opera's upcoming season of three productions. Afterwards, we found three more of the group and had a bit of conversation with them. I liked the opportunity to hear Tomer Zvulun, the new General and Artistic Director of the Atlanta Opera, make comments about the featured operas and the specific music presented at the preview. If you have access to the Sept. 29 edition of the Atlanta Journal, you might want to check out the article about him. Bob Edge, local opera aficionado, did his part to educate us by talking about opera buffa, bel canto, and I'm blanking on the third term.

I came late so I didn't get to connect with anybody. I bought the season ticket to Friday nights, so hopefully I will meet some of you next time.

    Hello all;

Just not going to have the time to fight my way into Cobb County this evening to arrive in a timely manner - will sorely miss the performances. Please enjoy on my behalf.

Thanks to Jeanne for organizing and posting - let us all keep our eyes open for more possibilities for this meetup. Thanks, Tom

A favorite Mark Twain quote below (funny whether you agree or not)

Hi Folks! Let's plan to meet tomorrow at 6:15 PM on the right just after you enter the venue near the coat check. I will be standing near the coat check and wearing a red, black and white floral top with a name tag, Jeanne East. The venue opens at 6 PM, and doors to the theatre will be open for us to go in and be seated at 6:30 PM. I will bring an extra sweater or 2 to save a couple of seats, but will obviously be unable to hold a large quantity. Many thanks to Kasia and Kacy for for all the information on the venue, parking, etc.! If you are not planning to attend or sit with the group, kindly update your RSVP. This will allow those on the waiting list to join us. Thank you. Jeanne

I just reserved my ticket! By the way, where is the best place to sit for opera at the Cobb Energy Center?

I do not believe they had translation in the overhead for the preview last year. If so, orchestra might be a better choice.

Hi Mark, Kacy, Vivian and Sheila! I'll post the meeting location / time for everyone, once I find out when the doors open. I am looking forward to the preview! Bob Edge is just phenomenal. Jeanne

    Just my three cents.
This is a preview meant to entice you to buy season tickets. It will be good, but not great. It is free, so you will get more than you pay for anyway. Venue is big enough to allow all interested parties to be seated without a problem, though if you would like to have premium seats you may want to get there early. Though if I remember correctly they do not open doors until something like 15 or 30 minutes before performance.
If you do not mind walk, there is a free parking across the street or down the road. This arrangement also allows you to get out of the parking lot fairly quickly where parking in the garage often means waiting for everybody else to leave. If you choose parking garage, my recommendation would be to park on the lowest level.
The venue is quite nice, but it has one of the most uncomfortable and tight seats.
I would recommend to meat to the right after entering the venue next to the coat check place.

wow this is so exciting!!! :) I hope I can make it!

However, since everybody will try to get in as soon as the door is open to find good seats, not sure hanging around in the lobby to wait for each other is a good idea.

After you park in the garage for $6, walk over to the building, pass the box office. Enter the double doors. Immediately to the right is the front desk. That may be a convenient place to meet, or just pass that, there's a bench against the wall, next to a smoky glass double door.

I have never been there and would also like to know that.

    September 26, 2013

  • Sheila C.

I don't really know the venue. Does someone want to suggest where we could meet?

    September 26, 2013

  • Ellen

Please communicate among yourselves as to where to meet.

This is going to be great -- there's no one who knows opera like Bob Edge.
