In Moisés Kaufman's acclaimed drama 33 Variations, two people share an obsession that transcends the boundaries of time. Ludwig van Beethoven fights failing health, encroaching deafness and crushing poverty over the course of his last four years as he works with mystifying obsession on his monumental Diabelli Variations. Fast-forward two centuries to Katherine, a music scholar, who finds she must come to terms with both her daughter and with her own diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). All the while, she remains determined to discover the creative process behind Beethoven's most confounding creation. This Georgia premier of Kaufman's multimedia, Tony Award-winning work features some of Atlanta's finest actors in tandem with concert pianist Brent Runnels playing Beethoven's music live onstage.
