Antonin DVORAK— piano Trio in E Minor, Opus 90, "Dumky"
Franz SCHUBERT— Quintet for Piano & Strings in A Major, Opus 114, D. 667, "Trout"

Helen Hwaya Kim, violin • John Meisner, violin • Catherine Lynn, viola • Brad Ritchie, cello * Douglas Sommer, bass • Paula Peace, piano • Alex Wasserman, guest piano

For our annual program at the lovely Ahavath Achim Synagogue, we are proud to present two of chamber music’s most beloved works. Romanticist Antonin Dvorak’s famous “Dumky” piano trio features alternating elegiac and jubilant emotions in this powerful work infused with stylized Eastern European melodies and dance rhythms typical of the composer’s native Bohemia.

Viennese composer Franz Schubert turned to his own song “Die Forelle” for the famous melody featured in the quintet’s Theme and Variations movement. The “Trout” Quintet was only published after Schubert died in 1828 but has gone on to be one of the most popular works in all of chamber music.
