NOTE: We strongly recommend you be there and ready for the exam by 12:00 PM sharp (we'll be there at least 30 minutes early), however, please note that we will not be able to administer tests to anyone that arrives any later than 12:30 PM. This is out of courtesy to our volunteer examiners that give up their afternoon to serve you and others who wish to test for their license.
Because the Laurel VEC has simplified the process with various electronic tools, the overhead costs have been reduced enough that the Atlanta Radio Club covers it as a service to the community.
What is This For?
In order to transmit (operate) on amateur frequencies (bands), you must be awarded a license by the FCC. To get that, you must pass a test to verify your familiarity with the rules and regulations governing the use of these frequencies and general radio operation.
There are three elements or classes of operation, each with it's own test, and each requiring that you pass the previous class's test. These elements are:
