How would you describe your current knowledge and skills (screenwriting, acting, or other)? [We read all responses. Please put a little effort into this form. You're a writer, right?]

I'm not a complete newbie when it comes to screenwriting, but I'm by no means an expert. I'd say a solid 4 out of 10, though I'm sure I'm the only person who'd consider a 4 to be solid. I have very little acting experience outside of having to star in my own video assignments in college. Do those two monologues I did in the theatre club in 11th grade count? My experience is primarily in shooting and editing video. I'm taking that first real step into writing now.

Which genres are you particularly interested in? (e.g. comedy, drama, science fiction, etc.)

Mostly comedy and drama, along with the romance inherent in them.

What are a few of your favorite movies, TV shows, books, or other inspirations? (List at least ONE by name.)

Well, here we go: Films The Graduate, Once, 500 Days of Summer, Pulp Fiction, The Departed, Superbad, The Matrix, Star Wars Episodes IV-VI, The Shawshank Redemption, Platoon, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Dr. Strangelove, Brick, High Fidelity, The Princess Bride, Fight Club, Let The Right One In (by Tomas Alfredson), Submarine, Tropic Thunder, Se7en, 50/50, Dead Poets Society, Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Rushmore, Young Frankenstein, Garden State, etc. TV Arrested Development, Breaking Bad, The West Wing, Community (Season 1-3), Firefly, Spaced, Sherlock, Scrubs, Flight of the Conchords, Seinfeld, South Park, 30 Rock, etc.

Do you hope to have any of your material read or critiqued by the group?

Not at this time, but I definitely will in the future.

Why are you interested in joining this screenwriting group? What are you hoping for?

I'm looking to meet creative people who share my interests while building both social and professional connections.

Hello! My name is Matt. I like movies. I also have the nagging feeling that calling them "films" around non-enthusiasts makes me sound pretentious. I find most things funny.
