How would you describe your current knowledge and skills (screenwriting, acting, or other)? [We read all responses. Please put a little effort into this form. You're a writer, right?]

Having pored over books, podcasts, the internet, and other resources, as well as attending other local groups, I feel I have a good grasp on the fundamentals of spec screenplays and approaches to writing them. I've completed two shorts, spent a lot of time on a couple of features, and have more in the queue. I've also provided coverage to others. I'm passionate about the craft and film in general, and know enough to help guide others. I would love to have one of my scripts turned into a movie and give others an experience like the ones I've enjoyed when watching my favorite films. That's what drives me.

Which genres are you particularly interested in? (e.g. comedy, drama, science fiction, etc.)

Speculative fiction, sci-fi, suspense/thrillers, and horror (scary, not gory) are the ones I would be most likely to write. I do appreciate other genres as well.

What are a few of your favorite movies, TV shows, books, or other inspirations? (List at least ONE by name.)

It's hard to pick faves, but, here goes -- Movies: Ex Machina, Whiplash, Take Shelter, Inception, Solaris, Moon, American Beauty, Monsters, The Matrix, Donnie Darko, Primer, Fargo, Blade Runner, Fight Club, A History of Violence, Aliens, Brazil, Signs (except the ending), Amelie, It's a Wonderful Life, The Wizard of Oz // TV: The Knick, Rectify, True Detective, Masters of Sex, The Americans, Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, X-Files, Archer, Family Guy // Music: Been listening to a lot of Cliff Martinez soundtracks lately. Also love the work by Gustavo Santaolalla on the Last of Us video game soundtrack. // Radio: This American Life - so many amazing stories! And its spinoff -- Serial.

Do you hope to have any of your material read or critiqued by the group?

Yes! Have had some good critiques already and look forward to more.

Why are you interested in joining this screenwriting group? What are you hoping for?

I started this group to build a community of screenwriters and a rich forum for us to learn the craft together. I'm also excited to take part in growing the film industry in Atlanta, and hope our group can contribute with some great original scripts. Please let me know if you have suggestions, a burning topic to discuss, a scene you want to go over, whatever! Also looking for volunteers to assist with the group, speakers, etc.

Screenwriter working toward my first big break. Producing my first short, finished another, and two features waiting to be rewritten, again. My wife is supportive and patient. Our two cats couldn't care less, tho they sometimes watch TV.
