What we're about

In the classic song Piano Man, Billy Joel alludes to a "real estate novelist" who never writes his novel because he hangs out at the bar too much.

Our goal is to not be THAT guy.

Join our fledgling group with the goal of achieving your screenwriting dreams by holding your flimsy excuses to the fire and brimstone of your judgmental screenwriting accountability partners, one simple goal at a time.

The format is simple.

- Step 1: We pick a monthly in-town spot
- Step 2: We go through goals and achievements
- Step 3: We discuss said goals and achievements
- Step 4: We offer words of wisdom and, if applicable, righteous condemnation for goals not met
- Step 5: We share samples and give constructive feedback

Each of us should have ONE goal every month that is totally doable. Think "flesh out my protagonist's back story," "read a screenwriting book," "develop my two plot points" or "write my flashback scene." The philosophy: By keeping goals simple, and actionable, we move forward. By not reaching lofty goals, we get discouraged and stop.

Side note: TV writers or novelists interested in film are very much welcome here.

Double side note: Yes, we'll have an agreement that says we won't steal ideas. Regardless, you're more likely to get things accomplished by sharing rather than keeping ideas, however brilliant, to yourself.

Want to get that brilliant idea done already? Then join us already!

First Screenwriter's Accountability Meet and Greet

Needs a location

Hey screenwriters, For our first meeting, I thought we'd have a casual meet and greet. Thinking something like The Local in O4W (easy access to interstate from Freedom Pkwy). I picked Wednesday nights, because Mondays have football, there's always something going on on Thursdays, and Tuesdays are...I don't know... taco night? Open for suggestions. Also up for discussion: - Decide on name. Keep it the same? Be more descriptive or creative? - Introduce ourselves/our projects. - Introduce our first goal. - Discuss particulars of the Meetup structure (like do we have partners, etc.) - Decide on time/place. I'm thinking every other month in-town and Buckhead. I will also have a writing-related icebreaker that actually isn't lame. I'm looking for our Meetups to be casual and fun but super focused. The purpose of this group is accountability. We'll have people representing all stages of screenwriting experience, from those who've actually shopped them to those (like me) just getting started after a screenwriting class. But one thing we should have in common is that we are active participants, not observers. I think the ideal accountability group size is 8-12 people, so if we get more, we can always branch off in two (or three) and circle back. See ya'll on Wednesday!
