It's the height of summer and that means Sandbar Time!
Everyone can meet at BG Oleta River Outdoor center at 11AM for those needing to rent a paddle board, kayak, or canoe. If you already have one, bring it! Meet by the picnic tables downstairs from the rental center. People can grouped together to split costs for tandem kayaks and canoes, or you can rent a single kayak for yourself. Plan to arrive at the park entrance by 10:30AM to give yourself time to get through the park entrance line, find parking, and meet at the rental center by 11. Parking is $6 per vehicle.
Single Kayaks are $45 for 3 hours. Tandem Kayaks are $55 for 3 hours ($27.50 per person split). Canoes are $60 for 3 hours and can fit 3 people ($20pp). Paddle Boards are $50 for 3 hours. The center charges $10 additional per hour and will bill you afterwards. If you're bringing a guest, it's best to book online and save money by reserving for the entire day.
After everyone gets their gear, walk over to the Oleta river launching point directly across from the rental center, it'll be a quick 20 minute paddle to the sandbar. We'll look for the BIG RED PIRATE FLAG where Dan's boat will be anchored (See the "Sandbar Sunday" pin on the map in the photo posted to this event). He has a grill on the boat and will be arriving at the sandbar at 11:00 (give or take a few minutes, depending on Miami time)! Bring your favorite drinks and anything you want for the grill or you can order food from the nearby food boats (yes! food boats!).
Dan doesn't ask for any money, for this but if you would like to help out with gas for the boat, he'll happily accept a small donation. You can also bring some cash if you want to get on the boat to grill and help cover propane costs.
Let’s get our sandbar on!
