You've probably heard of the Tongariro Crossing. It's probably New Zealand's greatest walk, and an absolute must-do if you're able and fit. For most people, this walk takes about 8-hours, but it is not too strenuous, and the track is good-quality. However, to do it in a day trip from Auckland is quite challenging, as it is a 4.5 hour drive from Auckland.
So here's the plan:
Pickup from 148 Quay St at 6am sharp.
Arrive at Mangatepopo Car Park at 11am.
Finish the walk at 7pm.
I will plan to race ahead of the group near the end of the trail, and catch one of the taxis that will take me back to the Mangatepopo Car Park. Then I will drive my van back to the end of the trail to pick you guys up.
We should arrive back in Auckland around midnight.
This is a very challenging hike so make sure you are well prepared! You will be absolutely knackered the next day, so this is why we'll do it on the Saturday.
This is an expensive trip for me and my gas-guzzling van, so price is $80 each per seat. I have 8 spare seats in my van.
We will leave at 6am sharp from 148 Quay St. Give me a text on[masked] if you think you might be late! The trip is also weather-dependent. I will let you know by the day before of cancellation due to poor weather.
I hope to see you guys there!
