Looks like people really loved this idea - so we are going to try run it at least once a month. Keep a look out for it being listed.
A ride that is specifically targeted at those who feel they fall somewhere in-between being experienced beginners and really really needing to transition up to our intermediate group.
CALLING ALL RIDERS WHO WANT TO TEST THE INTERMEDIATE WATERS WITH OUT FEELING LIKE THE ODD ONE OUT :)
I've been told that that it might be just a wee little bit intimidating to go directly from out beginner grade rides to our regular Intermediate grade ride (held bi-weekly on Saturdays), so this TRANSITIONAL ride is meant to help you grade up without the perceived added pressure to keep up while testing your skills.
We will still ride grade 3's+ and maybe even look at introducing you to some more challenging bits but it will be done at a more relaxed pace and be focused more on the social aspect so you can have a chance to ask questions of our more experienced riders.
This is a blend of Intermediate and semi challenging trails to help you start focusing on testing your intermediate level skills in a safe way.
This time we will be riding some of the new trails at Totara Park. The reason is that we can easily session some of the new flow pieces as a group plus put some session practice in on a couple of other more challenging pieces like a rock garden, Little drops and a roll off drop in etc.
We won’t be treating these rides as uphill races - the idea is to focus more on the downhill and technical skill building so your uphill climbing speed can be pretty relaxed as we won't be judging or pressuring anyone - just take your time. However you must be at least fit to do an easy gradient 800m switch back climb at least 10-12 times times even at a slow pace.
Because this will be more socially orientated you will have lots of opportunities to ask some of our more experienced riders real questions about how to ride better and get some great practical tips along the way.
If you have been thinking about joining the intermediate rides but haven't rounded up the courage yet then this ride is perfect for you to get yourself ready to up your game.
ACG operates a no drop policy which means we regroup at trail heads and trail ends to ensure everyone is safe and accounted for.
We will be out there for a few hours but it will be at a comfortable pace and will regroup for each other at junctions and top of hills.
Please arrive and meet the other riders prior to 8.45am so everyone can have time to get their equipment ready to ride by 9:00am.
We will meet in the main Totara Park carpark off Redoubt road (before you reach 159 Redoubt Rd), entrance is directly across from Alexia Place - drive in the entrance and look for the big group congregating and my distinctive Cyan Blue Kona Bike.
Arriving early means you won't be left behind (we leave at 9am.
Totara Park trails are free to ride on. Note that there isn’t any toilets in the carpark, There a couple of portaloos around the park but if you prefer a higher grade of toilet facilities I’d suggest you use a service station prior to arriving.
