Aquaponics is a marriage of fish farming and hydroponic growing of plants. You feed the fish, their waste feeds the plants and the plants act as a biological filter to keep the fish healthy. This exciting development in sustainable horticulture has many advantages over straight hydroponics and growing in soil and it can be completely organic. It is low maintenance compared to hydroponics and systems can be scaled down to fit almost any available space.
This is a special interest group for those interested in learning more about Aquaponics, sharing information tips and resources. There's a few unique challenges to Aquaponics in New Zealand and having a group such as this will give us the combined resources to find solutions to them.
