- More Betterer Development
We've all had apps that were not a shining example of great software design or implementation. Maybe a 3rd party built it for you, maybe you've started a new job and inherited it, or maybe you actually wrote it (we won't judge). Maybe the idea of adding a new feature or even tweaking an existing one not only fills you with dread but you know even a simple change can actually take ages to deliver. You are at the point with that code that you believe it would actually be easier to throw it away and start again. Unfortunately, it's almost always a bad idea to throw it out and start over again, so what can we do to first understand the app, then actually go and make it better? In this talk Kevin Isom (Senior Engineer at Lightbox NZ) will take an application and show ways to understand just what is going on with it, implement steps to ensure that a minimum quality threshold is maintained while allowing us to steadily improve the application. This will cover a range of areas including DevOps, Databases, as well as both FrontEnd and BackEnd code and examining third-party services we can use as well.
