Discover Your New Skill of Public Speaking that's Already Inside You!

Colorado Technical University

"I joined Toastmasters in hopes of becoming a good enough speaker to speak in front of my colleagues with confidence. The George Sutton Toastmasters club drew me in with its positive energy and caring displayed by the members in supportive critique of each other. Because I embraced TM, this amazing thing happened: I discovered that I am actually a really good speaker and that I enjoy my time in the spotlight. I was able to speak to my colleagues at a conference, and in front of my brother's congregation, where everyone noted that I had a clear, strong command of public speaking. What a way to show what TM can do for a person! I would recommend George Sutton Toastmasters club to anyone who wants to learn to be comfortable with public speaking, who wants to improve their command of public situations, and who wants to gain confidence in their ability to meet any challenge." --Teresa M. Seggerman, DVM, Lakewood Veterinary Hospital Most people join a Toastmasters club to develop their speaking skills. What always happens is that the new member quickly learns they already have a unique skill that's been buried inside them for years; that is, the ability to present themselves. No one can present YOU like YOU! All you have to do is unveil your true speaker voice and then develop it using educational guidelines Toastmasters provides, and our club to practice those skills every week. Over time your unique skill will emerge! We have a 100% success rate in this area! If you are looking for a new skill, come visit us at our next meeting (Thursdays, 11:30-1:00 p.m.) and see how it all happens. You are welcome! RSVP or just drop-in. Guests get to relax and just enjoy the show to see what we do and what we're all about. We always have 15-20 in attendance and NEVER cancel a meeting. Food: Lunch is not provided but you are welcome to bring a lunch of your own into the meeting room. Dress: People come to our club directly from work and home. So, we have some people showing up in suits and some in jeans. Come as you are...you are welcome! Challenge: Can't get away from work? Bring your boss with you! Let the company you work for see the value of our club. They may even pay for you to join us! Also, be sure to join our club's facebook page https://www.facebook.com/auroracoloradotoastmasters for updates and announcements. We are an official Toastmasters club #3942 (since 1979) called the George Sutton Toastmasters club, named after the man who helped Ralph Smedley organize the first Toastmasters club in 1904. **Membership Note: By joining this Meetup group, we will send meeting invitations and announcements to you by email. Attend Our Annual Speech Contest

Colorado Technical University

"Competing in a Toastmasters club contest is a great way for members to step beyond their comfort zones. Participating at the club level will elevate your skills for sure. If you win, and move up through the levels of competition in the Area, then Division, then District and beyond, that can give you a whole new level of confidence and competence in speaking that you never would have acquired any other way." --Marty Dickinson, HereNextYear.com Every August, Toastmasters International hosts the World Championship of Public Speaking contest. Being crowned with public speaking royalty begins in the winter months before as clubs compete to advance one member in hopes of ultimately competing in the championship event. It's a long road to that level of success and typically takes years of club membership, learning, and striving for contest speech performance perfection. The club contest winner must win the Area competition against winners of speech contests from five other clubs, then compete at the Division contest against five other Area winners, then against several Division winners to advance to the District competition. Winners from Districts around the world meet at one location to compete for the world title. Soon, one lucky woman or man will be able to add to her or his resume, "2019 World Champion of Public Speaking." Competing in the speech contest is not a requirement. But, it does display just one of many ways Toastmasters provides opportunities for your growth as a speaker. GUESTS ARE WELCOME! Attending a club speech contest is a great way for guests to checkout Toastmasters for the first time. You'll enjoy the cheapest entertainment in town (since all of our meetings are free for guests) and you'll walk out of the room a better speaker...even though you were just a spectator. Be sure to arrive early so that you have a few minutes to check-in and meet some people before the contest begins promptly at 11:30 a.m. Once they contest begins, we will only allow people to enter the room at certain times throughout the contest to reduce interruptions. Food: Lunch is not provided but you are welcome to bring a lunch of your own into the meeting room. Dress: People come to our club directly from work and home.
