Have you ever contra danced before? If so, how long have you been contra dancing?

First time was dancing a similar dance in Brazil, the quadrillo. 8/3/10 was my second time. I went to every dance i could get to, even when out of town, and quit counting at 100. That was two years ago. A contra dance is an instant community no matter where you find one. You are one of the group. I meet and maintain touch with people all over the country and see them several times a year.

Do you do any other kinds of dancing? If so, what styles do you do?

contra is easy to begin because you are told what to do during the dance. there are no steps, you just walk in time. After a while you find you may want to embelish, express more of what you're feelings. These upper body flourishes like leading turns, spins, gave me the confidence to try some ballroom. When I did it was simply a matter of getting the pattern of the step, and then throwing in a turn or spin when it felt right!

Other than liking the dance style, what's the one thing that makes you want to come back to another dance?

There are always at least 40 people, regardless of how many respond that they are coming. The energy on the floor is what i come back for. It's a very shared experience with everyone. it's a very shared experience with your partner. With everyone you come into contact with.

Where do you get most of your information about upcoming dance events?, Facebook, and links to dance schedules.
