After a brief hiatus, the tour of Planet Austin returns. Our August destination is Spain. Join us on Saturday, August 17th at 5:30pm for tapas and Spanish wines at Barlata.
Barlata is the latest addition to the booming South Lamar corridor that is already home to several "must visit" restaurants such as Uchi, Barley Swine, Flour and Vine, etc...
Spanish chef and restaurateur Daniel Olivella and his wife, Vanessa, moved their young family to Austin with the intention of opening a restaurant. Local Spanish food lovers have been on the alert for quality representations of Iberian cuisine and Barlata delivers. Olivella built his culinary reputation in this country with B44 Bistro in San Francisco and Barlata in Oakland, two casual restaurants that serve authentic Spanish cuisine. Both are known as busy, comfortable neighborhood places for enjoying food and wine with friends.
We have 30 seats reserved at Barlata's two community dining tables. We will dine right in the middle of the action as one table faces the kitchen and the other table faces the bar. Daniel and Vanessa will prepare a special sampling menu for our group that will consist of several tapas, several pinxos and a few paella's. Baralta also has a deep wine list featuring Riojas, Rosados, Catalunyas, Toros and other wines from various regions of Spain.
Here's some advice for the uninitiated, tapas are meant to be shared and the food will come out rapid fire - when it's ready it's hitting the table! So bring your appetite and get ready to experience authentic Spanish cuisine tapas style!
Marla, Michael and I look forward to seeing you there!
