RECAP OF FIRST MEETUP MEETING

1) Statistics - Based upon responses supplied at the time of joining, the following statistics have been accumulated:

a. 56% of members are available on the weekend for events
b. 44% of members are available on weekday evenings
c. 9% of members are available during the work day
d. 62% of members would like to participate in more active meetups (hikes, skating, dancing, etc.)
e. 48% of members would like to participate in non-active meetups (games, movies, happy hours, etc.)
f. 10% of our members still have a school-age child at home
g. 15% of our members refer to themselves as a couple

2) Polls - I will be putting up poles on ongoing biases. They are located in the drop-down menu under the heading MORE on the top menu bar of our meetup group. These will help determine the type of functions, and best days, for future meetups. Currently there are four active polls:

a. What day of the week is best for you to attend a happy hour?
b. When should we hold our first big pot-luck?
c. What type of music do you like to listen to?
d. What type of music do you like to dance to?

Please take a moment to answer the polls, and check back for new ones when you get a chance. Add
new ones if you want a feeling for what people would be interested in attending or their availability.

3) First Major BBQ/Pot Luck - A huge amount of people put down pot-luck or BBQ as events they would like to attend. I think this would be a great opportunity to meet as many members, and their families, as possible. Please check our poll and select which day will be best for you to attend. I will need to make a decision early next week. We will be holding the get-together at the Mary Seamore Park off of Slaughter lane. It has a great wooded area for hiking, a golf-disk set up, fields for flying kites, a play ground, all kinds of amenities. And, alcohol is allowed. 

4) Flyers = New Members - The more people that join our group, the more options we will all have in events we can attend. The more people that join from the area you live in, increases the chances of finding someone close by that you can interact with. With that in mind, I’d like to suggest you consider posting flyers in common areas you might frequent announcing the group and encouraging others to join. I’ve created a sample flyer and saved it to the FILES area under the MORE button. You will note it has no reference to any individual, nor does it need one. Suggestions of places you can post them include: libraries, post offices, church bulletin boards, club areas, etc. You are more than welcome to use the one I created or make your own.

5) Host a Meetup! I plan on eventually having four different events that are held monthly, one each week. I know for a fact bowling and skating will be two of these (as I love to do both). Another might be a long hike, or canoe trip. It’ll all work out given time. Other than that, I plan on hosting the large get togethers every other month, or so.

But there is only so much I can do as an individual and I would really like to ENCOURAGE you to post meetups. In most instances, you will only get 2-5 people who will attend and there is nothing wrong with that. Here are some examples of things you can host:

a. A movie, or band, coming up you’d like to see
b. A class, of any kind, you’d like to take
c. A fishing or canoeing trip
d. A dance you’ll be attending
e. A restaurant, or bar, you’d like to try
f. A walk, hike, stroll
g. Game night at a coffee house
h. Trip to museum, art showing, wine tasting, etc.

In conclusion, I’d like to say the people I’ve met in this group so far are amazing. They are filled with good ideas and ready to enjoy life. Just keep an eye on the group, try to attend some functions and answer polls, and if you don’t see something come up you are interested in, please host a function for that activity. The odds are, someone else would really like to do the same thing.
