This year's Austin Area GIS Day is quickly approaching, yet there are many opportunities for you to participate! The Austin Area 2013 GIS Day will be hosted by CenTexGIS at the Texas State Capitol on November 20th. The Professional Development Session includes geo-activity booth displays, presentations from GIS professionals, a poster gallery and contest, engaging conversation, and of course cookies! Austin Area GIS Day Professional Development Presentation Schedule (1-4pm)

Topic: “The Use of Geography to Solve Real World Problems”

Topic: Sustainable Places Project - an interactive analytical tool that allows planners to ‘paint’ a site, city, or region with future development types; estimate the return on investment; and visualize the proposed development in a 3D interactive environment.

Topic: Data Translator Tool - This presentation explains the processes and methods used by TxDOT to collect, analyze, process, and translate roadway addressing data submitted from COGs, MPOs, E-911 Districts and City governments. This statewide linear referencing dataset will be used for federal mileage reporting, planning, analysis, mapping projects.

    Austin Area GIS Day – Wednesday Nov. 20th – Texas State Capitol

    All Austin Area GIS Day activities will be held in the Capitol Extension, which is the underground portion of the Capitol building.

    The easiest way to enter the Capitol is through the nearest entrance (there are four: North, South, East, West) and go to the rotunda. East entrance is the closest to the visitor’s garage. From the rotunda go under the clock and there are elevators on either side. Take these down to E2. Once off the elevators, there is only one way to go. Follow that path and you will be in the South Gallery with the LCC on the Right. You can find all the Capitol floor plans and maps here:
