Open Mic at Mister Tramps

  • Jun 4, 2013 · 10:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Mister Tramps recently added an Open Mic for Tuesday nights @ 10 pm, exclusively for musicians.

They now have a PA system (45 watts), mics and lights. This event is completely free to musicians and they'll live stream the event on the web. The recording is deleted the day after the event, however any musician who liked their performance can request a copy for their personal use, again totally free.

This event will be repeating every Tuesday night.

I went to the Mr. Tramps open mic on 5/21. It was sort of a dry run -- the organizers and support staff were there. They were planning for a wider launch on 5/28. They plan to have a 'house band' that plays a set and acts as filler until open mic participants fill up the roster. Other venues have followed this model in the past and it worked out well. This gets the crowd/room warmed up for when new players are ready to rotate in. I think that will help draw people from the rest of the venue in to make it more lively. I took a multiple function pedal board and 2 instrument cables. I plugged that into the PA and it worked fine. They have two microphones so you can play an acoustic and sing if you want. There was a singer (Ernie - great guy!) there who enthusiastically augmented my rhythm guitar work on 4 songs (Living After Midnight, Sunshine of your Love, Rock You Like a Hurricane and Paranoid). Go there! It is a great place to start out doing what you love.
